          Job Description

          Postdoctoral Research Fellow

          UE07: £35,333 - £42,155 per annum

          CMVM/ Deanery of Clinical Sciences/ Centre for Cardiovascular Science

          Fixed-term for 36 months

          Full-time: 35 hrs/week

          We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join the Metabolism, Diabetes and Obesity Theme at the Centre for Cardiovascular Science.

          The Opportunity :

          he postholder will work on a number of cell therapy projects under the guidance of Professor Shareen Forbes investigating translational projects in islet transplantation for the treatment of Type 1 diabetes. There will be a particular focus on optimising islet transplantation through the use of cellular therapies and microparticles in preclinical animal models so as to improve islet engraftment and long term function of islet grafts.

          Your Skills and Attributes for Success :

          PhD in biomedical discipline

          Excellent knowledge and previous relevant practical research experience in molecular biology and cell biology.

          A current animal licence or recent previous animal license with previous experience in working with rodents for is essential.

          Experience of common imaging and related analysis software used in cell biology.

          Practical experience working in a standard scientific academic (or commercial) research laboratory

          The Centre for Cardiovascular Science (Head of Centre, Professor Andrew Baker) is a world-leading centre of excellence that integrates discovery, translational and clinical cardiovascular research to transform the diagnosis, treatment and management of people with heart and circulatory diseases.

          We are working with local, national and international partners and funders to develop solutions to our research challenges with regional and global impact.

          Research in the CVS is investigator-led. CVS has 50 principal investigators leading research across four themes: Metabolism Obesity & Diabetes (MOD), Hypertension & Renal (HART), Cardio-metabolic Imaging (CINEMA), and Coronary & Valvular Heart Disease.

          The technologies employed within CVS span basic molecular and cell biology, to model organisms (flies, fish, rodents), to clinical trials. The ethos in the CVS is that, whatever their background, investigators can use our network of collaboration and training to deliver fundamental discoveries and implement them in translational research.

          CVS hosts two British Heart Foundation research centres: the Centre of Research Excellence (REA3) and the Centre for Vascular Regeneration (CVR).
